Health Insurance Design and International Differences in Health at Older Ages

In this collaborative project, Persson and Maria Polyakova will explore the role of health insurance systems design in international variations in disease prevalence and mortality. Using a comparison of the United States and Sweden, they ask whether international differences in costs of prescription pharmaceuticals make a quantitatively important contribution to disparities in health outcomes and longevity, that have been documented between the US and other developed countries.
