How to effectively teach climate science

Geologist turned high school teacher turned GSE researcher, IRiSS Center for American Democracy Graduate Fellow Lynne Zummo examines how adolescents' political identities affect their scientific reasoning - particularly about climate change. “We’re at a critical point right now, both with climate change itself and with climate change education,” she said. While teenagers' political engagement may be lower before they are able to vote, their political identities must still be taken into consideration when designing an effective climate science curriculum, argues Zummo.

Zummo has accepted a position at the University of Utah as Assistant Professor of Learning Sciences, where she will start this fall. It is a joint appointment with the Natural History Museum of Utah, where she will serve as the Curator of Learning Sciences.
