Semantic Networks of Technological Fields

Daniel Hain, Aalborg University

Roman Jurowetzki, Aalborg University

Brunch will be provided.

For our last forum of the quarter, we will socialize over brunch, chat about possible directions for the fall quarter, and enjoy a presentation and discussion with Daniel Hain and Roman Jurowetzki's an ongoing project.

Hain and Jurowetzki present a novel method to map the evolution of technological fields by using large amounts of unstructured data. Combining insights from the fields of natural language processing and network analysis, they are able to identify how the combination and re-combination of knowledge fragments manifests in the emergence technological trajectories inside the larger technological fields, and how these trajectories qualitatively and quantitatively change, split, merge and eventually disappear. They demonstrate the application of this approach and its outcomes for “singularity”  technologies in the broad fields of human robotics, AI, bio-engineering etc.
