Research Data Grants

The Winter 2024 application cycle for Research Data Grants is now open.

Proposals are due by March 1.

Awarded through a competitive proposal process, Research Data Grants are designed to help defray costs associated with acquiring data for Stanford graduate students in the six social science departments and the Graduate School of Education. The grant is awarded as a $1,500 stipend. It cannot be used to hire students.

Application Guidelines

The annual application cycle for these grants typically opens during Winter or Spring Quarter, and consists of two parts, to be uploaded as a single PDF:

  1. A proposal of no more than 2 double-spaced pages. (Additional pages are allowed for your budget and any necessary charts, tables, etc. A bibliography is not necessary.) The proposal should present your research question, state your hypotheses or anticipated findings, and describe the experiment you plan to run or the method(s) you intend to implement.
  2. A brief budget for your project as whole, indicating which part of the overall budget this stipend represents.

We also ask for the name and email address of a faculty member who has agreed to mentor you on this project.

These stipends are made possible by generous gifts from the IRiSS Advisory Board.
