Participate in the Research Experience Program (REP)

The REP is a program which incorporates research experience as a part of social science courses. The Research Experience Program (REP) is aimed towards giving you a different way of experiencing social science. Through the REP, you become a participant observer in on-going research projects conducted by researchers from Stanford University. This gives you the opportunity to participate in studies that lie on cutting-edge frontiers in the social sciences. Furthermore, the program offers talks and tours which you can attend to learn more about different research in the social sciences.

The REP would like to thank you for taking part in the program. Our program would not be able to run without your participation. We have placed important information here to help you smoothly earn your REP credits. If you have any questions, please contact the REP Administration at research-exp-program@stanford.edu.

A Diversity of Experience

Social science is extremely broad and varied. As such, you’ll be able to take part in a wide variety of different kinds of projects that come from a variety of disciplines: business, communications, education, political science, psychology, and sociology to name a few. Furthermore, many experiments are in different stages of the entire research process. Not only may you be helping researchers collect important data that will later be used for presentations and publications, you will also help out researchers who are planning their final studies by providing them important feedback while they pre-test their research design.

REP studies are administered in a variety of ways: alone, in groups, and online. You can get the full diversity if you are taking a face-to-face (in-person) course since you will have the opportunity to take a wide range of in-person studies.

Important Deadlines

You must sign up for the program and complete all the pre-requisites by the deadline.  If you miss the sign-up and demographic survey deadline, you will still be able to participate in the program if you sign up before the “late sign-up”  extension is over.  However, if you sign up or turn in any of the pre-requisites during the late sign-up extension, the number of credits you have to complete by the end of the quarter will double. Furthermore, past the late sign-up extension deadline, you will NOT be allowed to sign up to take part in the REP.

DON’T wait to sign up for studies!  Near the end of the quarter, the REP can’t guarantee that there will be enough study timeslots open to accommodate the high demand from students.  Therefore you should fulfill your course requirements throughout the quarter in a timely manner.  If you plan to take approximately 1 study a week, you should have no trouble fulfilling your course requirements.

Please email research-exp-program@stanford.edu for a current calendar of deadlines for participation in REP.
