Sophie Bhurtel

Sophie Bhurtel is a Predoctoral Fellow at Stanford's Immigration Policy Lab. Originally from Kathmandu, Nepal, she recently graduated from Yale University with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Global Affairs and History. Her research interests encompass migration, labor, and governance, including how migration regimes shape market access, economic precarity, state accountability, and citizenship rights. Her work is informed by her experience with the UNDP, the Central Bank of Nepal, and the Yale Research Initiative on Innovation & Scale (Y-RISE), where she served as a Herb Scarf Research Associate and Tobin Fellow. She also served as Board Coordinator of the Yale Women’s Center.
