Genetically Modified (GMO) Food Labeling: Is It More Misleading Than Informative?
2024–25 Survey Lab Project

In recent decades, a major debate has emerged around genetically modified organisms (GMOs), particularly in food. One of the key questions is whether—and how—these foods should be labeled. In the U.S., mandatory labeling has been required under federal legislation since 2016. Additionally, voluntary "non-GMO" labeling is widely used.

I am interested in exploring whether these labels truly support consumer autonomy and the “right to know.” What foods must be labeled, and do these requirements align with public interests? More importantly, do consumers actually understand what these labels mean, or do they interpret them in ways that differ from their intended purpose?
