The Cost and Impact of Sexual Harassment in the Workforce
2018–19 Survey Lab Project

The #MeToo movement has brought sexual harassment to the forefront of the public and academic debate around gender inequality. A lot of attention has also been devoted to the gender wage gap, and its precursor, occupational sex-segregation, as a manifestation of gender inequality. Yet the two have seldom converged in academic investigation. In this research I explore whether men and women differ in their responses to workplace sexual harassment. In a population-based experiment I expose participants to different negative workplace experiences followed by questions about their perception of those workplaces; thus allowing me isolate the effect of sexual harassment on workplace evaluations and whether they differ by the participant’s gender.
