For the last many years he does part-time engineering consulting with Applied Precision Design of Redwood City, and is a lifetime member of the Society of Photonic and Instrumentation Engineering. John is listed on three patents in the electron microscopy field, and is a former member of an Engineering Advisory Board at UC Berkeley.

John is also a board member of a number of private technology companies. In the non-profit sector, John serves on the boards of UNICEF USA and of Karam Foundation, which brings education, opportunity, and hope to displaced Syrians in Turkey, Jordan, and the US. Prior to joining Andreessen Horowitz in 2010, John held Executive Vice President positions at three Silicon Valley technology companies, namely Silver Spring Networks, Opsware and Excite@Home. Earlier in his career, he worked in the United States and Europe with MediaOne Group/US WEST, Booz Allen, Eircom (Ireland), the EU Commission, Digital Equipment and Siemens.
Gloria Principe is the Chair of the Silicon Valley Committee of Human Rights Watch, an NGO that investigates and reports on abuses happening in the US and around the world, and presses those with power to act with justice. She is also on the board of the Riekes Center, a local organization dedicated to character building and self-development through creative arts, athletic fitness, nature awareness and community service. Gloria has held leadership positions in several local community organizations including public school foundations and private school boards. She has been a management consultant for Booz Allen and a marketing executive in companies in Brazil, Ireland and the US. Gloria grew up in Brazil. She is a graduate of Syracuse University and has an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
