IRiSS researcher releases first historical archeology book to be published in China

Barbara Voss, associate professor of anthropology and 2015 IRiSS Faculty Fellow and Seed Grant recipient, recently published The Transnational Lives of Chinese Railroad Workers: Material Culture Research from a Guangdong Province Qiaoxiang and Railroad Worker Camp Sites in North America in China. Voss says her goal was to obtain “a transnational understanding of the experiences and lives of Chinese railroad workers—their home villages, their travels, the places they worked and lived in North America, their communications with kin back in China, and the economic and cultural influences that transformed their home villages into the forms that they take today.” Read the author's summary.
