Research Round-table: Week 1

Angelika Lindstrand (Education and SCANCOR) and colleague present the data coding scheme they plan to use to encode network data collected from the press releases of European biotech firms.  They also discuss the challenges of defining the network boundaries of the biotech field in which they currently include foreign and domestic regulators, venture capitalists, banks, suppliers, and the biotech firms themselves.

Angela Lu (Sociology) presents some of her preliminary Markov Chain analysis of vacancy chains and career pathways in contemporary Chinese bureaucracy.
